After having spent many a Monday all alone in
the Museum, there were plenty of ‘occurrences’ or ‘happenings’ that
I could never explain nor did I dwell on them either! That
being said, I’m not at all sure I believe in ghosts.
But I can tell you after working at the Museum, I believe
in something.
That belief comes from one experience in particular – the
one described as happening in the Reception
Area. That ‘experience’ stands
out from all the others; the one I will never forget and the
one that my mind cannot dismiss as merely being an odd occurrence.
It seemed that anyone who spent a fair amount of time at the
Museum had a story to relate regarding, what I will call, hauntings.
When you think about it – the Museum is full of items
that are related to both war and death. It was my understanding
that most of the German artifacts were taken off dead German
soldiers; therefore it would stand to reason there are ‘things’ or
perhaps ‘spirits’ – if you will - still attached
to these items. Dying on the battlefield would not lend itself
to a smooth or easy transition to the other side, making
for circumstances that would promote the lingering of the spirit
and reluctance to cross over.
Of the stories that are related in this section, I can only
vouch for four of them; the four that I happen to personally
experience. The other stories were related to me by co-workers
and interns and while I was not present during their ‘experiences’,
I have no reason to believe, with possibly one exception, that
they were not telling the truth. Bottom line – since I
had experienced something, why would I not think others had
as well?
I've not been employed, nor visited the Museum for over a year.
I'm sure other occurances have taken place or that I was not
privy to hear all the stories while I was working there. If
you have experienced something at Silent Wings Museum,
or can attest to one of the stories already published here,
I'll be happy to post it - just email ME with
the details.
